Costa Olmo
Costa Olmo is nestled in the hills if Vinchio, a region just south of the town of Asti. The vineyard was acquired by Vittorio and Paola Limone in 1990, who undertake the running of the farm and winery themselves, aided by a team of highly-qualified agronomists and oenologists. Their sole focus is to produce wines of quality which also reflect tradition and the unique terroir of the vineyard.
The estate covers only five hectares in the municipalities of Vinchio and Vaglio Serra, and the vineyards enjoy a south-west facing position on two hillsides, well-sheltered from cold winds, about 280 metres above sea level. The soils are an exciting feature of the estate, with analysis’ showing that the vineyards contain high levels of Kimmeridgian clay, the same that characterizes the wines of Chablis and Champagne. It is for this reason that they also decided to plant Chardonnay, as well as the local Barbera and Roero Arneis varieties. Even the Barbera, while being produced according to tradition, has some organoleptic qualities that distinguish it significantly from other wines of the region.
