Theresianer Birreria di Trieste
Theresianer’s origins can be found in a two-hundred-year-old tradition that dates back to the era of Maria Theresa of Austria, a time when the city of Trieste, a lively hub of Austrian trade and culture, expanded with the creation of an important new quarter – Borgo Teresiano. Austrian merchants and entrepreneurs settled in this quarter, bringing with them the customs and predilections of their homeland, which included a passion for excellent beer.
In 1766 one of these men, a certain Mr. Lenz, obtained permission from Maria Teresa’s government to open, in Borgo Teresiano, the city’s first Austrian brewery. This explains why the best Viennese brewers moved to Trieste, as well as the origins of the name Theresianer.
Today Theresianer is a model company. With headquarters at the foot of the Dolomites, in Nervesa della Battaglia, the exceptional quality of the main ingredient is guaranteed – the brewery is supplied with superb, crystal-clear water from the nearby glaciers via deep aquifers.
Despite having the appearance of a nineteenth-century brewery, the plant was actually redesigned and rebuilt recently by owner Martino Zanetti, who placed an emphasis on hygiene and brightness. The brewery’s gleaming steel hydraulic equipment guarantees the highest quality at every stage of the production process. The plant features modern technology and was designed by the world’s greatest brewers to ensure that the noble beverage has unparalleled authenticity and distinctiveness.
The attention to detail apparent in all of Theresianer’s products and services has always been the secret of the company’s success and is an indication of its enlightened entrepreneurial philosophy.
An enthusiastic new generation, aware of the historic heritage that must be protected and preserved, is now joining the world of Theresianer. Fabrizio Zanetti became a member of the company's Board of Directors in the spring of 2005.
